SEND

At Hazeldown School, our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) vision is to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where every child feels a genuine sense of belonging. The school is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where dignity, not deficit guides practice—children with SEND are supported with high expectations, not defined by their challenges. We recognise that greater complexity merits greater expertise: Hazeldown ensures that any additional support is of the high-quality, purposeful and delivered by skilled professionals. We strongly believe in the importance of children growing up different, but not apart, promoting a sense of community in each classroom where diversity is celebrated, and difference is a normal aspect of humanity.

Staff pride themselves on knowing pupils, their interests and their goals (their ‘North Star’). Where a SEND pupils’ talents extend beyond the National Curriculum, they are given opportunities to become experts in their field, the freedom to express themselves and excel. At Hazeldown, we are committed to identifying and addressing the unique needs of each pupil, ensuring access to a broad and balanced curriculum that inspires a love of learning. Our teaching practise for all pupils is guided by the Education Endowment Foundation’s ‘5-a day’ principle; these strategies support all pupils, but particularly those with SEND.

Through close collaboration with families, professionals, and the wider community, we aim to empower all children by fostering independence, confidence, and well-being. Success in all its forms is recognised and celebrated at Hazeldown; achievement is defined not only by academic outcomes but also by personal growth and contributions to society.
